All 50 States – Bucket List

Will update as life goes on!  Updated: 7/13/19

I’ve always romanticized the idea of travel. I envision a lengthy road trip that hits through all the states, experiencing all that America has to offer. Each state has such wonderful sights to see and adventures waiting. With that being said, I worry about all the things that can go wrong with traveling and so I seldom leave my own town. It’s much easier to just stay home, where I am familiar and comfortable.

I want to put a stop to that thinking.

This last weekend, I took a small trip to see a friend and I was determined to drive the whole 4-hour trip there. I made it just over three hours before I gleefully let my husband take the wheel. Sure, I was a nervous wreck. I spent three hours needlessly white-knuckling the steering wheel while all the thoughts of what could go wrong were racing through my mind. Even though I did not make it the whole way, this was still a small victory for me. I drove three hours in a direction I had never been! I look forward to expanding my horizons (quite literally) with this new found confidence in myself and the support of my husband. Let’s start exploring!

Here is a map of the states that I’ve been in so far. Please note that I’m only counting states that I have spent time in. Passing through does not count!

The states that are colored in are states that I have visited at least one city in. If it’s gray – I’ve never been! Notice NC is where I live so I’ve placed a marker in that general area.

I am a 25 year old from Western North Carolina interested in phobias and fears after dealing with Anxiety and Panic Disorder over the last few years. It had such a debilitating effect on my life. I realized how much of life I was missing out on due to fear. I hope that by instilling courage in myself, I can instill courage in others to face their own fears and live life to the fullest capacity!

  1. You have a start now so just keep adding when you can. Good ambitions and yes, there is so much in the U.S. to explore. I like going the back roads and look for unique things and ways of life. Safe travels! 🙂

  2. Great post! I am on a quest to see all fifty states before I turn thirty..so got seven more years to see 30 more states. Got the majority of the Midwest done. The south is all done except North and South Carolina. My two big swatches of grey would be the pacific northwest and the Dakota region along with the northeast. Alabama would be a nice road trip from NC, plenty of civil rights history in Birmingham. Also look into Lincoln, Nebraska – they have a gorgeous state capitol. While you are there, make the drive to Des Moines, Iowa – there is the Iowa state capitol and history museum. Happy travels!

    1. Thanks for your comment! The world is a big place and I’m so excited to see more of it! And thank you for your suggestions! We will definitely look into those areas for our next road trip. When you do head up to North Carolina, be sure to check out some of the waterfalls around WNC. They’re beautiful! I’ll have to do a post on those someday soon!
